The renowned Wickery Bridge is the bridge that leads you in and out of Mystic Falls. It was built in 1912 from the wood of the white oak tree, this was the last white oak in existence.

This bridge is very important to the townspeople of Mystic Falls and the town’s history. It being the only way in and out of town, makes it popular. Near the bridge is also a famous hangout spot for teens in the town. The long and rich culture of the Wickery Bridge is maintained through an interpretive approach to intercultural communication (Martin & Nakayama, 2017, pp. 57). Its history and culture are shared through communication and transmitted amongst generations of Mystic Falls townspeople.

The bridge has some dark history as well, in May of 2009, a family drove off the bridge due to slick roads leading to the death of the two parents in the vehicle while the one teenage daughter somehow survived. No one knows how the daughter survived as she was unconscious during the whole accident and woke up at shore nearby (“Wickery Bridge,” n.d.).
The bridge is a sight you will see as it leads you into our wonderful town, you can even find merchandise on the bridge in our town’s gift shop!
